ARTWORK BY SUSAN SZATMÁRY

Swedish designer Susan Szatmáry got an honorable assignment to create a world of art for the grand entrance & restaurant of Hotel Villa Dahlia. Spending the past summer months in great company with brushes and paint, she has created seven paintings that will enhance the experience of all guests as they are placed in the ceiling of the entrance. The inspiration behind the art being the Venus Dahlia, Mucha Pasteller and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus helped create these seven paintings.

When seeing the paintings you can’t miss the golden details, an homage to her eponymous luxury leather brand Susan Szatmáry. She designs her bags with great inspiration from the era of Art Déco, and they are worn by many honorable ambassadors such as the Swedish Royal Family, Martina Bonnier (Editor in Chief of Vogue Scandinavia) and fashion expert Emilia de Poret.

The colorways in the art are inspired by the Italian hotel Villa Necchi, which was drawn by the architect Portaluppi. Villa Necchi is a piece in itself and is filled with collections of meaningful art. The stucco ceilings are covered in astrological motives. Having created the perfect mix of understandable yet mythological art, you can tell that Szatmáry also found great inspiration in Ancient Greece. While viewing the paintings you will find hidden goddesses, balusters and a color setting also found in the antique marble of Villa Necchi’s famous stairs leading you from the atrium to the first floor.

All of this is expressed in the seven paintings that she created in close collaboration with the Hotel Manager Pauline Cappelen.
