The first room at Villa Dahlia is now ready, The exclusive boutique hotel will open during autumn 2024

Pressmeddelande Stockholm, 30 november 2023

Vasastan’s first exclusive boutique hotel is taking shape by Tegnérlunden, in central Stockholm, and the first guest room is now ready. The new hotel has been given the name Villa Dahlia and is a new sister hotel to Hotel Diplomat and Villa Dagmar. Villa Dahlia will open in early autumn 2024.

Architect Per Öberg has been given the assignment to complete Villa Dahlia– the Malmström/Cappelen family’s third hotel in Stockholm. Guests will be offered a lush experience during their stay, with Tegnérlunden as the closest neighbour.

“We are delighted to present Villa Dahlia’s first room and to unveil the hotel’s name, inspired by Villa Dagmar, our grandparents’ Karl and Dagmar Bergstens’ home in Båstad, which my siblings and I often visited. The delightful scents of the flower garden lingered in the late summers, making dahlias a symbol for family, love and beautiful moments to remember,” says Anna Cappelen, active partner in Hotel Diplomat, Villa Dagmar and Villa Dahlia. “Therefore, it became the natural choice of name for our third hotel.”

The new chic boutique hotel, which brings to mind Milan in the 20s and 30s, will be an evocative international meeting place for both hotel guests and local residents. The first room completed, a deluxe room, sparks a preview of the rooms’ casual elegance, carefully selected color and material choices for a first-class sleeping experience. It also gives a sense of the hotel’s overall interior and atmosphere creation, where sustainability and craftsmanship are integrated into all choices. The interior comes from smaller suppliers to ensure high quality with curated design choices by mother and daughter, Anna and Pauline Cappelen. The hotel’s atmosphere and interior evoke a cozy Italian villa feeling.

“We have an intense period ahead of us completing Villa Dahlia, and we look forward to spring when we will open for bookings,” says Sune M. Malmström, partner and principal project manager of Villa Dahlia. “Our vision is to become a new retreat and dedicated destination for both hotel guests and tourists, as well as residents in the neighbourhood and Stockholm locals.”

A new sister hotel to renowned Hotel Diplomat and Villa Dagmar brings a flair of Italy to Vasastan

Press release Stockholm, August 28th 2023

An intimate and exclusive boutique hotel with the ambiance of an Italian townhouse is taking shape next to beautiful Tegnérlunden in central Stockholm, where Norrmalm and Vasastan merges together. The boutique hotel, with a planned opening in early autumn 2024, will be a sister hotel to Hotel Diplomat and Villa Dagmar.

Near the green, scenic surroundings of Tegnérlunden, the1960s building at the intersection of Teknologgatan 2 and Tegnérlunden 8 is undergoing a rebuild and transformation. Architect Per Öberg is in the midst of completing the new boutique hotel, which is expected to open its doors in early autumn 2024. The property, Barnhusväderkvarnen 22 (built in 1966), previously home to Hotell Tegnérlunden, is now being transformed into an exclusive boutique hotel designed to capture the essence of Italy, with design elements inspired by a generously proportioned Milan-inspired townhouse.

The new hotel will offer 103 guest rooms and suites, many with fantastic views of Tegnérlunden, a restaurant and cocktail bar. The hotel will also have a spa, gym, boule court and a Chambre Séparée/conference room. The hotel’s international environment and atmosphere was created by co-opener Anna Cappelen, together with her daughter Pauline Cappelen, who drew inspiration from their travels in Italy and Milan in particular. Responsible for the project management is co-owner Sune Malmström.

“We have taken the knowledge, craftsmanship, DNA and the familial touch from our other hotels and applied them in new ways – all aimed at bringing our vision of an Italian townhouse to life. It’s very exciting to be able to operate in a new, for us, part of Stockholm and we hope it will be an exciting addition to Vasastan for lodging, eating, drinking and socializing”

– Anna Cappelen and Sune Malmström, active co-owners of Hotel Diplomat and Villa Dagmar

Half-siblings Anna Cappelen and Sune Malmström together with Jan-Åke Glommen and Fredrik Lindberg collectively own the property. Hotel Diplomat AB will oversee the operations of the new hotel and is the tenant. The Malmström family has been running hotel operations for four generations, starting in the 1960s. Even today, they continue to successfully operate Hotel Diplomat – named “Sweden’s best hotel” five times running by the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award, in the category “Best Hotels in Northern Europe”, while Villa Dagmar, located on Nybrogatan next to Östermalms Saluhall, has been awarded National Geographic’s Traveler Hotel Awards 2021 and recognized by Tatler Travel Guide 2022 as one of the world’s top 101 hotels.

“We are thrilled to, together with Anna and Sune, continue the work of refining, managing, and further developing the property, which with the hotel will become a new and unique destination in Stockholm,” says Jan-Åke Glommen and Fredrik Lindberg.

The new boutique hotel is set to open in the autumn of 2024. Bookings will open during the autumn of 2023.
